Find someone that knows how to do it and has done it before. Also they will need a 20 ton press and know how to support the drum/hub. Maybe your local Early Ford V8 Club knows of someone.

You have to cut the swaged portion of the stud ( wheel side of drum )where it goes through the drum then support the backside of the drum and press it out. You can also drill from the backside and in large the holes enough to punch the stud out through the front.
New one will press in and should be swaged. Don’t waste your time on the aftermarket studs I haven’t found any that are correct yet. But I was able to buy some new old stock studs that fit perfectly. |

Re: how do I replace stripped wheel lugs in a wide 5 hub
I would drill the head off from the inside and push it out from the inside if I wanted to have no damage to either component, the stage cutters I have seen would take metal away from the hub or drum next to the stage
The ones I have set seem to finish in the 22,24 ton range--- it's more than just folding over a lip to hold the stud in, it's about swelling up the diameter too to fill the hole solid so there's no movement possible---- it's not the same as shoving in studs on a chevy axle, you need to ask questions before you "just drop them off at the local shop" |

Plus use a micrometer to measure the diameter of the old stud to the new. Should be close, not a lot larger. I would like to see it no more than .002 to .003 max. If you have to, chuck the stud in the lathe or a drill press, emery cloth or other sandpaper stuff will do. KARL |
