Did any AA models have a Power Take Off?

I believe they did for the bed-as I saw one at the Vancouver show. The 4speed tranny I have has a block off plate where one attaches.

Of course they had a PTO available. You must have seen pictures of dump trucks, fire trucks, and cement mixers, to name a few. How do you think they got power to run those type installations?

Not all trucks had the four speed transmissions. The early trucks had the regular car transmission with an under drive auxiliary transmission.These trucks did not have a power take off. Some of the old dump boxes were dumped by hand using cables, cog gears and a hand crank or a combination of all three. This was when truck drivers were truck drivers. They did not dress like drug store cowboys. You know why cowboys wear tennis shoes? They do not want to be identified as truck drivers. That is an old joke.

What is kind of interesting is hydraulics on construction equipment did not start until the late fifties or early sixties. Everything was cable driven from shovels to dozers. I had a project where we had to dig a trench and install a pipeline. The owner then wanted to lay a parallel line. They thought my price was too high and they would dig the trench with their own equipment. They had an old Brycirus (sp) Erie cable backhole. It took them about four days to dig the trench and we dug ours in a day with a John Deere 510. I watched the operator and he worked his butt off. He had all kind of levers to pull and all kind of pedals to step on.

Old road grader blades were all mechanically driven with gears and shafts.

You made me remember my Dad telling me he had operated a grader before WW2, probably in the CCC. I wish I had enough sense to ask him about all that stuff when I could. Luckily, I still remember driving up Pikes Peak in our '31 Coupe in '55 or so.

My son in law's 29 AA dumptruck has a PTO plate under the trans instead of the side which I hear is rare. I'm currently looking for a replacement for him. It's a 3 speed with a Ruxtel axle.

I would like to see some pictures of that transmission and the rest of the truck when you get time.

thanks for the picture. I have a couple under drive transmissions. I will have to look at the bottom and see if they have a pto plate. I do not think they have one.

This is the pto from my brother-in-laws AA dump. As I recall, the pto was a chain drive to the hydraulic pump for the ram. I'm looking for one of these for his truck if anyone has any clues.

Thanks for the drawings. The under drive transmissions I have look the same and shifts the same. Your axulliary is an over drive? I noticed you called it a dual over drive. I am just wondering if one of mine could be an overdrive.
