I am looking for someone to restore my banjo steering wheel. Anyone have a suggestion as to who might do this?

PS: I did a search on here and came up blank

Google Don Eash or D&D Memorabilia. He done the wheel for my 39 Zephyr. Very pleased with it.

I've done a couple for myself with great results. V the cracked places down to the steel ring. neutralize the rust. follow instructions on PC7 cans and get to work. Easy job. Paint desired color. NO PRIMER. Paint several coats and "block sand" between coats. So simple even a cave man could do it.

What about the spokes? Are they chrome or SS?

Lawson, what kind of paint will hold up to constant "hands on?" My wheel was restored before I got my car, but I wound up putting a leather cover on it because the paint wore off quickly.

Also, a cave man could do it? You know this because...?

I think the recommendation is for an epoxy primer. I did that on my '39 and then used a color I thought best represented the "original" from Walmart. Held up very well. Wedding rings etc. are, however, a little hard on paint!!!

Dick.

P.S. Second the motion on PC-7. Very nice for a novice like me to work with.

I use an Alkyd enamel with a hardener.

You can get a spray can of the desired color from your local automotive paint store. It will come with the hardener. Push a button on the bottom of the can and it injects the hardener. Shake well and use. Be sure to wear a really good mask when using it. It should hold up on the steering wheel long after you have departed from the planet.

There is a member here who goes by the name "alv" who restores banjo steering wheels and then sells them. If you do a search in the Early V8 for sale section for Banjo Steering Wheels, his ads will come up, and you can click on his name or avatar and send him a pm or email.
