Cleaning Black Walls??
Getting ready for the parade Monday (Hickory Corners, MI) and decided to clean my tires. I changed the color of my wheels to black (they were straw) and the dirty tires were more noticeable. I don't usually monkey with trying to get tires real clean. So I got some Wesely's and followed the directions and cleaned the tires. One came out noticeably greyer than the other three. I'm going to try and post pictures. I took a picture of the left front which is acceptable, and two pictures of the right front, the one that turned grey. So what do I do to make them all nice and black for the parade??

There's alway armor all or some other wipe on oil type of enhancer you could try.. Armor All low gloss worked for my Firebird when I had it..

Re: Cleaning Black Walls??
Years ago there was black "Tire Paint" don't know if it is still available. Used car dealers loved it.

Re: Cleaning Black Walls??
I have been using a RUBBER lubricator, it seems to soften the rubber a bit and give a great shine..

Re: Cleaning Black Walls??
That's funny. There is a guy named John that lives by me that also changed his wheels from straw to black.
You could also try something like Eagle One tire and wheel cleaner. |

to make them clean, wd 40, to make them shiny, armor all wipes, to make them black shoe polish, but you cant armor all them after the shoe polish.

Re: Cleaning Black Walls??
I use soap and water to get them clean, then spray on Turtle Wax F21 Protectant. I've had better luck with the F21 than I have had with ArmorAll, which seems to be too oily. I typically just spray it on and let it sit without wiping it down. You do, however, have to wipe any overspray off painted areas or it will show streaks, especially on black fenders.

Re: Cleaning Black Walls??
Spray the Westley's on, let it sit a few seconds and then use a hose to rinse them. That seems to work better than wiping like it says to do.

Re: Cleaning Black Walls??
I use Beyond Black. Got it from NAPA. A detailer told me about this stuff. It works great on the tires and on my running boards. Not very expensive...

Re: Cleaning Black Walls??
Try old fashioned boot polish sold in a flat round tin. It covers well and does not shine on the tires any more than new rubber.

Re: Cleaning Black Walls??
I've always just used one of the soap filled scouring steel wool pads "SOS" is the ones I use. They are soaped, so they clean well, and the steel wool really gets the tires nice and black. I like the spray on stuff, but it seems to build up after awhile, so I use it just now and then.

Re: Cleaning Black Walls??
I use bleach white. Spray it on, scrub it with a brush, hose it off. Looks like a new tire, Nice and black without the shine.

Re: Cleaning Black Walls??
This will sound strange, but use Black Stove Polish. It's hard to find in the south, except at a fireplace store. Anyway, it is the same principle, as the shoe polish suggested. But, I believe that it is stronger. I turned a set of whitewalls into blackwalls with it. It does a good job on running boards too ! And it lasts !
