Rod knockin'
I have developed a rod knock. Time to pull the pan and see whats happening. Hopefully the crank isn't damaged. That would open a big can of worms. I guess that answered my question whether my engine had poured or inserted bearings.

How does a rod knock determine insert or poured?

Re: Rod knockin'
How was it determined whether it was a rod, piston slap, or wrist pin?

Re: Rod knockin'
Ifn it just started knocking and isn't too loud yet the crank should still be good.

Re: Rod knockin'
A rod knock is most noticeable on deceleration.

Re: Rod knockin'
What do you know about the engine. Did you rebuild it or is it an unknown used engine. Could be a ton of things. I am thinking piston slap right now. How much compression do you have?? If you have decent compression it could be wrist pins.

Re: Rod knockin'
When I bought the car I pulled the head and replaced it with a 5.5. I noticed 4 new pistons and 8 new valves with very little carbon. That is all I know about the engine. Idle and low RPM is fine anything above that results in loud clatter.

Re: Rod knockin'
I'll take a stab, how about a broken valve spring (Using ESP). BTW how was it running noise-wise before the head swap? Maybe it is time to drop the pan for a look-see. Pulling the pan is always a good idea for any engine you or any new owner is not intimately familiar with.

Same symptoms my 29 had when I bought it. My center main was totally gone. All the babbit was in the bottom of the pan. |

Re: Rod knockin'
Sounds like a center main to me also. It does not sound like a rod.
