Default Draft around brake pedal

Is there a way to keep the noise and draft/fumes from coming into the car from the brake and clutch pedal area? I have a new felt and new tin plates installed and I can still see the ground. The floor mat does not cover that area very well and I am wondering if there is a trick.

Cut an old piece of thin carpet and make slits for the pedals, so it will slip into place and be snug around the pedals.

The original design actually worked quite well. Although you didn't specify, I'm betting you are working on a 1929 model. I don't think anyone reproduces the correct plates and felt for a '29 which has the steering column about 1/4" higher. It's worth noting the original felt was only about 1/4" thick and less dense than the the precut felts offered today. That allows the plates to sit down flat. Also Ford attached the felt to the plates with adhesive which helps.

Carpets and mats never covered the raised areas of the steel plates.

Man, you can learn a lot on this forum. I bought three felts from different suppliers before I finally gave up and made my own for my '29 Tudor.

I thought for a while there was something wrong with my car, but everything else fits and lines up well.

Thanks for the info, Marco.

Marco's photo is great. (As is his advice.)

I have felt carpet padding under both the front and reat rubber mats in my '31 Tudor. Similar padding was actually available as an aftermarket accessory. With careful cutting.... no draft, no dust, no light... no problem.

I suppose everybody knows this but be sure to sand and get the rust and pitting off the pedals. Look at Marco's pic.

Those smoooooth pedal arms are NOT going to rough up and chew away the felt openings on his roadster.

I wonder if a little silicone spray lube on the openings would help lube the felt openings and prevent early scrubbing away.

Many years ago I included the descriptions of all four types of this floor seal in Area-11 of the Standards. I included the reasons and it's worth reading.

It's also worth noting that not all pedals are straight. This applies more often to brake pedals I suspect as many have been abused for years of trying to panic stop the cars with malfunctioning brakes. The pedal shank MUST remain on the same center line throughout it's travel or your options for a seal are limited.
