I get all my batteries from a junk yard. Usually 10-20 bucks. The one I have now has been in use for 3 years, so far.

I've had good and bad luck with diehard and interstate. Actually the longest battery I've had lately is Autozone yellow top but if you have a bad one Autozone can be "tricky" with the warranty. I had one go bad years ago and they wanted to deduct warranty left from old battery off new battery warranty. I had to pay full price (no adjustment) to get full warranty

An exception to my overall experience is my 2003 VW whose original battery is 13 years old and still going as we are entering spring here. This winter it was starting the engine at zero degrees. I believe the difference may be that I drive it at least every 2 or 3 days around the city on errands for an hour so. I also keep the engine tuned and it starts at the first rotation.

Regarding so-called non-new batteries, friend at local Advanced Auto store took me in parts room and showed me a line-up of new-looking 3 year batteries. He said that because they didn't sell within 18 months on display (and trickle charger), they have to sell them at $50 or less with no core charge or $5 state recycling fee, and they still honor the specified 100% replacement warranty from date of purchase. Not a bad deal on the cheap.

I use optima red tops on all my cars, and a blue top in trailer to run the winch.

I've had great service from these batteries!

I've been using a Duracell 6V from 'Batteries+' - have had it in the car since the spring of 2014. I keep a battery minder on it (which is a good idea). Even with a high-compression engine, always starts the car over really nicely. They have a few different models - I think mine cost about $80. Also, it fits my 1932 battery carrier just perfectly (maybe a bit taller than an original).

Item: SLI1
Cold Cranking Amps: 640
