6 volt to 12 volt conversion
I'm converting my 1940 Ford over to 12 volt. I have the Alternater and alternater brack to flat head v8. I know Regulator is eliminated. What other engine wires go where? Gauges and lights are not an issue now. Thank you for the help.

Re: 6 volt to 12 volt conversion
There are several articles and old threads on doing this conversion. Here is one resource. http://www.how-to-build-hotrods.com/hot-rod-wiring.html

Re: 6 volt to 12 volt conversion
As stated there are sources of information in various places.
Considering that you are using a one wire Alt. this is a general idea of the one wire hookup and the other issues that need to be addressed.

Re: 6 volt to 12 volt conversion
I left the regulator in place and just connected the Armature wire from the generator (now the +12v wire from the alternator) to the Battery terminal on the regulator. I used the former Field wire as a ground, attached to a ground point on the alternator and under the screw that fastens the regulator to the firewall on that end. The alternator should ground okay through its mounting bolts, but that added ground connection is insurance.
