Ford front axle identification help
The attached photos are of a early Ford front axle with hydraulic brakes and wrapped spring. the center to center measurement of the king pins is close to 48".
I'm not sure of the year; can anone out there help me identify the year? If I can't use it I'll list it on Ford Barn for sale. Thanks for your help, Mark |

Re: Ford front axle identification help
Looks like 40 or 41.
looks to have spring over perch bolts used as sway bar mounts. Are the spindles round on the back where the backing plate bolts to? |

Re: Ford front axle identification help
Thanks, the spindles are round where they bolt to the backing plate with four bolts.

Re: Ford front axle identification help
Spindles are most definitely 37-41 then. Axle, spring and wishbone appear to be also.
Backing plates are either 39-41 or 42-8. Probably earlier style. Hubs are 40-48. There are two styles of those also. Yours appear to have the hubs outside the drums. Could very well be all 40 or 41. Stuff gets mixed and matched a lot over the years though. |
