Good seal with Thermo quail?
I have an older Thermo Quail and it does not seal well. The hinge seems to have loosened up and even with a new red top gasket it does not create a tight seal.
I have a Boyce Motometer on another car that fits with precision nice and tight Is mine just worn out or is this just the way the design is on these quails?? Is this a typical failure point?

Re: Good seal with Thermo quail?
What's leaking?? There is another gasket UNDER what the quail attaches to. You could also try double gasketing under the quail cap.

Re: Good seal with Thermo quail?
I have used gas gauge shim washers under the gasket along with some silicone sealant to hold everything in place. Seemed to work OK, ie: no leaks.

Re: Good seal with Thermo quail?
My quail cap was leaking too, so I used a 2nd gasket and (knock on wood) no leaks so far

Re: Good seal with Thermo quail?
The big suppliers sell a very thick o-ring to go under the top half for worn out hinge situations.
