Are these countersunk holes for the Lower bracket
Bored on the wrong side of the wood? The inserts obviously go
On the back side.

Dave , Looks backwards to me . Pics are all rh . Wood is mine from Brads and cowl piece is a pic I got from Ed Solari .

Dave these photos should help and my wood was also from Brads and your wood looks incorrect my wood was also countersunk on both sides.

Since they are nice round counter bores, you can use a plug cutter to cut maple plugs to fit in there and glue them in, redrill the small hole for the fastener and counter bore the other side for the T nuts. That is what I would do, nobody would ever see the plugs and they would be as strong as the rest of the wood.
When my buddy and I made the new wood for our 40 wagons, we had a wood stove that all the mistakes like that went in! Person who made the wood got mixed up when they did the counter bore, easy mistake to make when the wood is not completely finished.

I bought some wood for my 34 from Brad's Wood Shop in Friday Harbor and it is flawless.

Brads is in my backyard, but he said at the soonest it would be mid summer and he was
Vague at that. The only thing he responded to was top bows. That was 3 months ago

Flawless? Depends on how you define it. Brad's wood is not consistent with the original at the junction of the cowl top and cowl sides. While perhaps done to facilitate its forming, it requires a lot of fudging for the windshield post attachments. Still, at least the sides are right side out, unlike those from Fordwood. Some of his other wood items are even further afield from the originals because he does not do finger joints, which are a lot stronger than the butt joints that he uses.

This is all I could find handy but it is the original top piece from my car and as you can see DavidG is right .

Dave , I am not working on my car so if it helps I could send you my cowl set and you could order one from Brad and have him just send it to me .

If this works have him send the hardware kit to you now and he can just send the wood to me when done .

David J , Thank you for the kind offer! I am going to plug the holes and redrill the proper side and use what I have. I feel they are far from perfect , but I can make them work. At least they do fit the cowl sides nice. They also do have finger joints in the upper piece. Can you post a picture of what the hardware looks like? It looks like there should be a threaded bolt plate to fit in the groove? I have a pair of upper cowl brackets on their way to me , thanks to Steve S here, and am curious to see how the upper wood fits when I get them.

Here's the plates . Note the ends of the bolts . Makes it easier putting stuff together. These are not part of the hardware kit .
