Default Funny story

I just received a call from some nice sounding foreign lady that was really concerned that the extended warrenty on our car had expired. She wanted me to sign up for a new extended warrenty so we would be protected from costly repair costs. Being the nice guy I am, I said "sure". She then began asking me questions about the vehicles we have. I told her that we had a 1930 Ford model A. She then asked if we had any other vehicles and I told her no that the model A was all we could afford. Danged if she didn't hang up on me. Hard to figgure some folks. LOL

Lol, a few years ago I got a similar call. Told them I needed coverage for my Desoto. Then I had to explain who made Desoto. Once we hit the year, 1951, she hung up.......

If you buy a policy they will not be around when you need them.

Yeah, I have done the same, they ask if there is another car to insure, I tell them the '27 "T" is available...

Years back I used to receive calls from publishers clearing house. They always started out with "You have already won".

I just told them I had won so many times, I didn't know what I would do with any more money. Click !

OK, so say they did write an extended warranty for a 1930 Ford. Lets say the engine broke. Who would you take it to? The Ford dealer? I went to the Ford dealer to try and get the studs on a hub pressed on. They had no idea what I was talking about. Did not compute. This Ford dealer was established in 1915 and is in the same building. They have a 1915 Model T and a 1930 Model A in their showroom.

I think the problem is that the nice lady with the foreign accent does not have any actuary tables for 1930 cars. If they did they would probably write you up, for some big cost.

Best way to handle scammers other than immediately hanging up on them is to ask them who do they want to talk to?? Then tell them, just a minute I'll get that person for you. Then just set the phone down and let them waste their time waiting.

If it is a robocall, they don't care what you do. If you answer, they know it is a live number and keep calling. It was tough to stop answering the phone unless I recognized the number. If I wanted to get called when I was looking for a job, it'd be even tougher. but I'm retired.

I like to ramble on about several different new cars I own ,that I don't really, and then ask the person which one they were calling about. When they name the one they want to cover I begin describing a different vehicle completely. You'll frustrate that person and they will transfer you and that person will end up transferring you until someone hangs up.
Last woman told me she thought I was just wasting her time before she hung up. I couldn't believe she said that to me!

I find the calls funny because I don't own a vehicle that isn't less than 30 years old. My daily is a 1993 pickup truck.

Scammers are becoming common place now. On the phone I enjoy harassing them. I ask questions and keep them talking. If they say I owe money I respond by saying, yes I'll pay that, just put a bill in the post. Or a computer virus I ask so many questions and conclude by saying "there must be an error because I don't have a computer". They get angry at me.
I got a new one recently. A sender with an anglo name saying I had an important document- please review. I asked him who he was before I opened and of course he didn't respond.
I had always taken people at face value, never dealt with crooks before. But learned fast.

I've called myself, twice! I was pretty sure that I was not calling myself on the same phone that I would be answering. I now monitor calls that I'm not sure of, if they are legit they will leave a message, and when I hear that they are legit, I answer the call. If I receive only 5 spam calls a day, it is a slow day!
