Default 36 steering box question

Have a 36 steering box still In car that I want to make sure is ok before I put the engine back in the car.
Is there a way to flush it out , clean out the old oil?

Also what kind of gear oil should I put in it.

Steering gear lubricant is one of those subjects that has about as many answers as there are people posting! Any gear lube will work, the issue is something that will not leak out. Some suggestions are STP, STP & Gear Lube mixture, heavy weight Gear Lube, Cornhead, etc.

If that '36 steering box is not a leaker, I would use a gear oil as originally recommended by FoMoCo. If it is a known leaker and you can't or don't want to rebuild it with all new seals, I recommend using John Deere Corn Head Grease. You can order this on line, or you can pick it up at most any JD dealer. Stopped a leak in my '35 steering box dead in it's tracks. It also improved the ease of steering my '35. I used JDCHG in this steering box as a quick fix in 2012 prior to making a 7,200 miles cross country trip/tour, while planning to rebuild this box after returning home. That JD grease is still in the box and all is doing well as of this date. Will rebuild the steering box when I have to pull the engine, hopefully way down the road.
