Valve clearance Hot/Cold
I have an Isky 77B cam installed in my 276" 8BA. Specs call for .014 both Int. & Exh. HOT. Since its not possible to adjust the clearance HOT in a FH, what would be the correct clearance to use? I'm thinking about .016, what say the experts?

Re: Valve clearance Hot/Cold
Surely Isky knows better than to specify a "HOT" clearance spec for a flathead! Maybe should call them for clarification.

Re: Valve clearance Hot/Cold
It is .011 and .013 cold.
CORRECTION: The ones I do are set at the above specs. I got my masters from an original Isky cam with the red steel seal on it, in the mid 50's. It is important to follow the manufacturer's installation instructions. Deviating could void the warranty. Last edited by Pete; 10-01-2019 at 07:34 PM. |

Re: Valve clearance Hot/Cold
Well, cam card says .014. Have e-mailed Isky, we'll see if they can provide the clearance for cold setting.

Re: Valve clearance Hot/Cold
Pete,
Is that .011 exhaust and .013 Intake? I would think the clearance on the exhaust needs to be more than the intake due to the valve getting hotter and expanding more? |

Re: Valve clearance Hot/Cold
Got the answer from Isky--there was a misprint on the card that came with the cam. Clearance is .014 both Int. and exh. This is the COLD setting for the 77B cam.

Re: Valve clearance Hot/Cold
I bought the 77B 25 years ago, had the misprint then.
