Default Rejeting the Stromberg 97

So my '35 has a Strom 97 on it. The car is now at my home outside of Denver, CO after spending its whole life in the midwest at sea level. I'm thinking about rejeting the carb from #45 to #43's and bumping the power valve from #65 to #67 in order to account for the new elevation the car will be running at (around 5-6k feet). I've never worked on these carbs before so I'm looking for all of the advice I can get. From the research I've done it doesn't seem like it's too tough a job but I'd love to hear from all of you that have done this before. Any and all commments please!!

Send a pm or email to Uncle Max who is in SLC, Utah. He can tell you anything and everything you will ever need to know about rejetting that 97. Plus UM has every Jet Set and PV known to modern man. He may even have some of his own creation Jet & PV sets that are completely unknown to modern mankind.

Is the exhaust black? You will need a jet wrench. They make adjustable jets but I do not think they are very popular. Ken CT or Uncle Max are the men in the know on carburetors. Be sure to get the little round gaskets that go on the screws that are removed to get access to the jets.

Look at the two front plugs. On an aluminum manifold the passenger front plug is feed by passenger side main jet. The drivers front plug is feed by drivers main. Steel intakes are feed from the opposite side mains. Clean the front plugs and drive 10 miles and check them. I like to see them fairly clean with maybe a few dark spots on the bottom smooth surface next to the threads. If black and sooty it is to rich. To clean and lean the engine runs warmer. G.M.

What JM 35 said. Max Musgrove is almost your neighbor in SLC.....he has
his own version of the Stromberg jet wrench and is without equal.

From the bulletins: .045 standard, .043 5,000--10,000 feet, .041 10,000--15,000
PV apparently left alonw in te high altitude models.

You have probably the correct combo for your elev. in the 043-67 deal. BTW 97 is incorrect for a 35. It should be a #48 which would be even worst than the 97 your using,ei. has 048 jets + #63 PV. . Do as you first mentioned. ken ct.
