If no luck here check with your local Model A and Early Ford Clubs to see who their members use.

Do you have a friend with a lathe? I turn those between a dead center and live center
driven by a dog. I do this all the time - make sure to put a rubber band or bungee's
around the drum or the harmonic noise will drive ya ears ka bonky.

thanks all!
(unsure why, but I'm not getting email notification of thread postings... I'll review my control panel)
I did contact an officer in my local EarlyV8 club and after a few "...no, but try this guy..."
leads I did end up @ Bay Area Friction...now Fleet Pride.
I have a question about removing the seal from these drums, but I'll make that a separate post.
thanks again

JAKE....Click on this link below (Post #4) for a fairly comprehensive explanation plus pictures (compliments of 19FORDY) regarding R&R of rear bearings. Hope this helps! DD

Default update / turn rear brake drums San Francisco bay area ?

Fleet Pride (formerly B & A Friction) couldn't turn the drums saying that they were out of spec.
my primary concern is maybe they had gone oval after sitting in the same spot for 20+ years. (discussing this later with my regular machinist, a Model A guy, he says "they don't do that")
while I had the counter man @ Fleet Pride on the phone I asked if they could remove the destroyed seals. he checked, but the machinist said he didn't know how.
checking the dimension when I returned home indicated 12.046"
I did manage to remove the seals even though it was a bit of an adventure.
I'll post that process elsewhere.

the final puzzle of the current chore involves the B 1183 seal that I overlooked during my first parts order.

they appear to be available, but shipping charges and waiting another several days to be able to finish up the task is less than attractive.
does anyone know the specs / dimensions ? is there an O ring that I can pick up from my local hardware store ?

thanks again for all the help.

"Didn't know how" to remove axle seals? At least you know where not to go now.

Buy new drums. They are not that expensive and good brakes are a life saver.
