Question - Installing Speedometer Cable
I'm installing a new speedometer cable on my 1930 CCPU and am wondering do I need to lube the cable before putting it in or do they come already lubed when you order them new? Also, when installing the cable does it matter which end you connect first? I couldn't find the answers after searching the forum but might have missed it somewhere.
As always thanks for all the great help Scott |

Re: Question - Installing Speedometer Cable
They come lightly oiled for shipping, but if you are installing a new cable in an old sheath, I would remove and clean the old one and re-lube with the lube of your choice. I have read almost everyting but butter tried on these cables so its hard to say which works better. I still prefer motorcyle chain lube as its easy to spray in and along the cable as you push it in and it sticks like sh*t to a blanket. It won't matter which end you start at but be aware that some cable ends can slip to far into the speedo drive and the square end will not turn to rotate the speedo. Some come with a small "pill" as a spacer to prevent this.
Good luck! |

You did good in buying both .
But even so, do as Farrell said . Take inner part out and use chainlube spray. Have fun Christoph |

Re: Question - Installing Speedometer Cable
I just did this with new cable and sheath from A&L.I I pulled cable and couldn't find the tube of white lithium (found it y/day thought right where I'd left it last time used) I'd used before, had a hi temp lube clear grease with teflon. Liberally lubed the new cable as i inserted it into the sheath.
