Will 30-31 rpu top irons fit 28-29 rpu's? How much different are they?
Thanks |

No they will not, enough difference that it just won't work.

Depends on the look you are going for.
In the Bishop/Tardel book They use the later bows /w modifications on a 29 roadster. |

Here is a link to a thread that I started regarding the differences between '28'/'29 and '30/'31 tops. The same basic answer is the same for the Phaeton, Roadster and Roadster Pick-up. http://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51230 Per Marco Tahtaras: "The '30-31 top will be more than 2" wider at this point and that dimension you can get from your car." What this answer boils down to is that beginning at the windshield, everything is about 2" wider on a 1930/31 compared to a 1928/29. Darryl in Fairbanks |

Re: rpu top irons
Somewhere I read that the 30/31 tops were removable. I wonder if this meant they had snaps at the rear bottom to disconnect them?

Re: rpu top irons
My early '28 RPU has an aftermarket top with the snaps at the rear bottom and the entire assembly is easily removed. I recommend this kind of top for the hot Texas summers as the rear window portion can be rolled up and held up with 3 straps that snap it to the top. This gives a completely open/breezy ride.

Re: rpu top irons
As a follow up to my earlier post. I received the new top irons and they are new reproductions for a 30/31 RPU. To make them fit my '28 I only need to replace the back wood bow with one for a 28/29 which I have and narrow the front and center bows a couple inches.
I have a set of irons that are the correct dimensions but were modified and are not real pretty. I think they may only be good for a ratrod. I'm going to ask $100 for them. |
