PAINTED 1939 Headlight rings NOS

I picked this up at Hershey, NOS headlight rings that I believe are 1939 Ford,did they go on trucks or a standard model? They are steel not stainless. Thanks. Bob

I have a few of those as well, was told they were war time production (WWII) when all chrome and stainless steel was being used for the war effort.

Didn't the war start just a little AFTER 1939, and after '40, in fact.......pretty close to 1942, I think it was? DD

Yep, you know it. The US actually began supplying war materials long before we became officially involved in the war. You knew that too

Parts like the headlamp rings were typically produced during the war and as such had no plating or were made from plain steel and painted. You knew this as well

OK, but when Henry was more concerned with gettin' B-24s built and sent to war DURING the war, he probably was less concerned with making REPLACEMENT headlight rings for '39 Fords. Likewise, there were umpteen gazillions of those rings that WERE made of "SHINEY" materials for the '39 models.......AND the '40s, and even the '41s. But YOU knew this.

Knowing VERY little about foreign Ford production, were they possibly Ford of Germany parts, or some such? DD

Ford was making vehicles for the military long before the War and I doubt that they were very fancy in those days. Like no shiny parts.

...the painted 39 HL rings were probally replacement parts made after the war began, and not necessarily in 1939.

Carl.......Do you sincerely believe that Ford was worried about making replacement headlight rings AFTER the war started? Ford had a lot more important things going, like building a B-24 every 59 minutes, building Ford Jeeps, aircraft engines, tank engines......fighting stuff! I doubt Ford was worried about replacement headlight rings that somehow got lost. DD

depends what country you were in canada and commonwealth countrys in 39. us in almost 42. i am not sure about the commonweaths of maine mass. penn. conn. i guess they still belong to brittain. lol but you easterners knew that. seriously canada being the major export factory shipped all kinds of vehicles to england from 39 to 45 there was a lot of a trucks staff cars station wagons to name a few. the military also requested tons of extra parts. most of these cars were dechromed to match the army drab paint i have seen at hershey n.o.s. outside door handles for 39 and 40. stainless painted gray, pot metal and steel painted black. about 15 yrs ago did you easterners that go to hershey every year see the box with about 200 n.o.s gray painted s.s. 40 handles.
