Routing of very early windshield wiper wire...
What is the correct routing of the windshield wiper wire on very early 1928 (1927 vehicles) closed closed cars?
Thanks. Pluck |

Re: Routing of very early windshield wiper wire...
My 28 Briggs body, the wire for the wiper was routed up by the left front door and across the header. There was a groove in the front door post and header for this. Came out of junction box, across front of fire wall and there was a wire holder on the fire wall above the steering column with a rubber groment in it as there was one on the brace under the gas tank to hold the wire until went up side of door sill. Just be careful when installing upholstry and not put a tack through the wire as will cause a short.

Re: Routing of very early windshield wiper wire...
What makes you think it's different than later models? Look for remains of two grommets inside and near the base of the right windshield post. There should be a round grommet in the support gusset about even with the rear corner of the gas tank and a triangular grommet where the belt rail ends inside the pillar or windshield post. You should also have a "U" shaped cutout at the top of the right windshield pillar moulding.

Re: Routing of very early windshield wiper wire...
I will tell you why the early models are different than the later models so you will know yourself.
On the very early tanks, they had "a groove at the upper left corner of the instrument panel area to ACCOMODATE THE ELECTRIC WINDSHILE3D WIPER WIRE". (RG and JS, A-8 Revised 1997). Obviously the routing is different on the very early modles...correct Marco? Thanks. Pluck |

Re: Routing of very early windshield wiper wire...
Interesting! Body number 514 (currently sitting on A217) has the wiper wire up the right pillar like the later bodies. Take a look at the top of your right windshield pillar moulding and see if there is a "U" shaped notch. Body 514 has the swing arm stud riveted on the moulding and appears to have the notch at the top like the later mouldings.

I recall a swap meet seminar a couple years ago (Grand Rapids???) with Dean and TK where they pointed out exactly what you were talking about on a tank that was lying around. Maybe one of them or Steve can chime in here.
