I have screwed the vendor hub puller just about all the way tight. Drum is about 1/2 inch off backing plate but will not let loose. I assume the brakes are too far out. The wedge is rusted solid. I have the tool and put a hammer to it both ways and it wont budge the adjusting wedge. Any thoughts? Too late to hammer with everyone asleep.

Leave the nut loose and drive around the block

Some times if you turn the drum as you pull it will help release it from the shoes.

Fundy, I would but the car is completely apart! Maybe I could borrow the neighbors horse??? LOL

Are you saying the hub is loose from the taper, but the brake shoes are holding the drum? I had that problem once and had to decide which part goes to the scrap pile. I don't recall if it was the shoes or the drum that gave up first, but it sure was a fight.

Tom, no not loose yet. Tight as a tick. I can't think of anything other than the brakes holding. The wheel would turn when I first got it but would grab in a spot...

If you push the drum back in place can you turn the drum then? If so you may have a build up of grease and grime that the shoes are catching on. Take a propane torch and go round and round and round.... the drum to soften the build up and expand the hub a bit and then give it another go.

Screw the nut back on the axle enough to protect the axle stub and threads at the end. Wack the center bolt of the puller, tighten, wack, tighten, wack. Something will give.. put ATF on the puller threads

1crosscut, yeah I can see in between where the adjusting wedge is there is a bunch of sh@t in there. Black so looks like grease and grime. Car just sat in the elements too long but hell or high water it will go down the road again!!!

Hammer on that dislocated brake shoe, and try to get it back where it should be. Where it is, the harder you pull the drum, the more locked on it will be.

Sure looks like service brake sticking. However, if it has an e-brake, is it on? Don't ask how I thought to ask that!
