paint colors

Me again folks......and thanks for your help and patience with this new A owner. Here is a pic of my car. I need to find a black paint that is not Rustolium as that is a grayish black and does not do well as a touch up paint color. I also need the two brown colors to do touch up. Where can I get some?

You will only match these colors for touch up by having these colors scanned at a good automotive paint supplier, and having a small quantity mixed for you based on the scan. You will probably find that the minimum is a quart.

Having someone give you a "paint code" for these colors will only get you close. You will not like the way the touch up looks.

You've already experienced that with the black.

I would ask the paint jobber if they can mix that paint in a ½-pint amount. Depending on the paint mfg, and type of paint, that qty is possible in some lines.

I find appliance black is blacker then the regular black. For scratches I use black nail polish.

If and when I repaint the fenders on my '31 roadster I would want to use a PPG Concept black that I saw 10 years ago when restoring my '37 Ford coupe.It is touted as the backest black on the market.It is or was a single stage and what I insisted the paint guy use and not clearcoat and guess what he used.He didn't think I would have wanted to pay the extra but the real reason is most shops only want to do two stage clearcoat,just easier.

Follow post 2. From the photo it's difficult to ascertain what type of paint is on the car. Depending on paint's age, it could be 2 types of lacquer, single stage enamel, single stage polyurethane or base / clear coat like modern cars. Your jobber can help with this, but lacquer, Concept, or acrylic enamel may no longer be available in your area. TCP Global in Southern Cal. can mix almost anything for classic cars but they need a small sample part to match. They have to conform to EPA/ state rules for sending the products in and out of Cal.

Try a quart of black urthane paint from TCP. I sprayed some of this last summer and you get the feeling that you can jump into a painted part like it is actually a hole in the ground. Very high gloss. Some time back I needed a special color for the rear view mirror and dash on my 32 Coupe. My local paint dealer mixed up the 32 dash paint in a rattle can. Ed
