Default Differential lubrication

Reinstalling the diff cover on my 53 Ranchwagon. Maybe a spicer 41, not sure. It has the metal cover with the fill plug on the back. I noticed that the fill plug seems very low on the cover. I don't think the gear oil reaches the bottom of the axle housing. Doesn't seem like the gears would get much lubrication. I guess I just never noticed how low that plug is. Did I close the garage door? Anyway, just one of those observations. I am sure they have it figured out.

The ring gear picks the oil up and throws it around.

Yes..I guess I am comparing it to the fill plug on the drop out diff. Seems like that one is about centered on the axle tubes.

tommy: You must watch this video. Differential oil cover design is the key.
Very interesting.

Wow...That was great. Never realized how much the oil was displaced. That answers my question perfectly. Thanks..
