Default Motor Starts Then Stops

Need some advice from the experts !!!.... My 29 coupe went flawlessly 5 miles two days ago. Started it in the garage today and it would run for 10-15 seconds then die. Did that 10 times. Checked the timing -that's OK; put in another coil --- same dying problem. Noted the amp meter does not go to "0" prior to the cut-off ; got lots of gas -plenty of battery power. Could this be a bad condenser ????Would greatly appreciate your thoughts... Indy A

You are right in always thinking electrics first , but in this case it could be fuel starvation- with only sufficient gas getting through to s-l-o-w-l-y fill the carb bowl? muck in fuel line , gas cap not venting - try it with cap off. Check fuel flow rate by disconnecting fuelline at carb.

Does it sputter and die or does it stop running suddenly.
Immediately check for spark after it dies by pulling the coil wire off the distributor, cranking the engine and seeing if spark jumps from it to a head stud. Should have a good blue spark that can jump a half inch.

Thanks to all of you .... especially John. Borrowed a condenser from a friend ... same stalling problem. Removed the gas line from the carburetor & that was the problem... only dripping at best !...fortunately had another gas line, installed it and she runs great. Many thanks for all your help especially from words "over-the-pond"... Indy A

Must have debris in the tank, changing gas line only cleaned the line or it was to far into the carb? It may occur again!

I have the same concern as Gary. I too think there may be another issue that may raise its ugly head again.

Try this. Disconnect the gas line from the filter with the gas tank petcock open and using air, blow back into the gas tank. then reconnect the line and see if that solves the problem. I am thinking a build up of stuff (rust) around the gas fitting. If that is it, you have some choices to decide on and also probably should clean out the bowl on the carb.

Don't stop now just because you got it going. I would go ahead and flush the tank if you can. I just guessing, but I bet there is more "pluggin's" in the system that will show their ugly head when you're on a Sunday drive.

Better to deal with the possibilities now than when your wife is sitting in the passenger seat watching her ice cream cone melt while you get it running. I've found that for some reason when I pull over and tell my wife "This will just take a second to remedy" she doesn't seem to believe me, huh?

Glad you tracked it down, Chap

Flush the tank and be sure to install the small brass filter in the tank valve. This filter will prevent junk from plugging the line and valve.
