Default Timing setup sequence.

I watched Les Andrew's videos on timing setup, which I used and it was great. However, I have one question (30 coupe). Les said that by adjusting the steering column, the control arm on the distributor should touch the body in full retard and then touch the body slot on the other side in full advance. He said this is very important for proper timing.

I can adjust the steering column so that the control arm will touch the distributor body in full retard; but when I pull the spark lever down to full advance, the control arm will not touch the body on the other side of the slot.
Car seems to run ok.

Any thoughts.

I wouldn't worry about it.

That's the way it's designed.
Touch the body on the up stroke, no need to touch body on the down, you will get all the adjustment movement needed

Thanks everyone. I went with touching on upstroke and not worrying about downstroke. Purrs like a kitten---or should I say a Ford Lion.
