Idle speed
I've installed a Marvel Shaber carburetor. When I idle with the spark fully retarted, I get a real nice low idle. Maybe to slow??
I notice the ampmeter goes from a slight charge to a slight discharge. I do have the generator lookalike alternator (Powermaster). With the spark advanced 1/4 way down (for slow driving), the ampmeter stays just slightly above "0". Should I adjust up the idle slightly, so I stay positive when idleing with the spark fully retarted? Or am I good as is? It does not stall out. Thank You;

Re: Idle speed
I would leave it alone. Your not idling that much that it would drain the battery.

Re: Idle speed
Once the alternator is turning really slowly, it will quit charging and needs to spin faster again to "self-excite" and start charging again. Mine does the same and isn't any problem.

Re: Idle speed
I don't idle an engine more than necessary, and I always have my spark lever half way down at idle.
Idle speed should be about 475 RPM. If you want to show how slow an engine can run, an old hit and miss is good for that. |

Re: Idle speed
I set my idle speed at parade walking speed, this way i don't need to ride the clutch
In the owners instruction book it says that there will be a discharge showing at idle and with the headlights on--- that it is normal |
