Default 39 ignition key

I never turn my key on or off when starting my car. I always just use the on / off switch and leave the key as is. I assume in the run position. So tonight I started to get ready for race of gentlemen. I decided that down there I better wd40 the key switch and try it a few times. As you may know the key is at 90 degrees to the steering column. When pulling the key out the cylinder began to come with it. So I pushed it back in. Now no matter what position I can’t flip the on off switch on. How do I fix this?

Push the cylinder back in where it belongs and check to see what holds the cylinder on the mount. I suspect there is a screw that holds it in and the screw has loosened up.

Thanks. Yes I did that. Your correct there is an Alan screw. I was able to turn by hand. I tried tightening it didn’t help and the loosening and again no good.

Is the key position when off supposed to be flat facing up? Or flat part facing driver?

There is a dimple on the lock cylinder. Line the dimple up with the set screw in the column drop. You might have to rotate the key for alignment.

If possible , jack up the car so there is no weight on the front wheels. Then try the key.

Andy; Line of sight across the flat of key aligns with column.

The key lock cylinder retaining pin is also an alignment pin.

It appears that the cylinder may have rotated out of position.

When the key is removable from the lock and aligns with the column

the lock cylinder should be in position.

Really we are setting the lock cylinder where it should be because the

alignment / retaining pin is gone --not engaging the align hole in the

side of the lock cylinder

Hope this helps---- for starter.

Thanks guys. I fiddled with it last night and was able to shut on / off switch.

I’ll use suggestions above and see if I can get it working properly
