Default Replating Gear Shift Lever

I want to get two gesr shift levers replated but they are kind of rusty and I want to clean it. I don't think blasting is the best option.

Use a chemical rust remover such as Evapo-rust or Rust911 first. Then either remove the remaining plating electronically or let the plater do it. It is very easy to ruin a gear shift lever if it has much pitting, or needs much buffing. It is hard for them to keep the stick from becoming wavy.

I used a belt sander on my 2 levers before getting them nickel plated.
As Brent said, it's real easy to make them look wavy, so use lots of care.

The bell shaped cover at the bottom has to fit the stick. If you grind too much off there it will flop around. A good platter can build up the pits with copper plate and grind it down.

wire wheel on a drill press or bench grinder does wonders and doesnt take off material like a sander. puts a nice finish on as well. i do this with my hand planes when i restore them.
