Default 1931 Victoria Front Pass Window Problems

The passenger side window is hard to wind up when the window is at the mid point. I can see that the window is pushed to the right side against the soft felt track. I can hear squeaking between the glass and the felt. I have lubricated the felts with silicone and have cleaned the lifting arms and the window tracks at the bottom and re-greased them. I can't see why the glass is shifting to the right. If I lift the window by grabbing it, it does get a bit looser and I can wind the window easier. Has anyone experienced this problem and how was it solved? I hate to have to dismantle the whole door. Ed

Has the glass been replaced at some point in time?? If so, it may be undersize.

Its likely in the winder believe it or not!
I’ve worked on many of these and they are cantankerous
If the regulator is out of the car, take the double arms at the top and with moderate force pull the apart. If that spins/moves the winder stem (the square in the cup) you have a wear problem. You have to either repair or replace
Also make sure one of the double springs is not broken

I suspect the glass is not sitting in the bracket evenly. There should be a nominal 1\2" of glass protruding past the end on each side. I may have shifted or was not correctly installed.

I will go with Bill, but I will add, make sure that it has the correct springs. no one that i know of reproduces the correct springs. the large spring help to roll up the window the small one help keep the window level. also when I restored my Victoria and had the glass cut for the car the right door glass was just a little to long, I ended up removing the glass and had it sanded down a little shorter. it has worked fine for over 37 years.

Tom Endy has it right. The position of your glass in its bottom channel bracket needs to be adjusted to shift the glass.

And you may ask how could the glass move in the channel throwing it off? Doors slammed shut, vibration ...... The glass sits in the channel is a friction fit!

Unless it a big amount, a little misplacement won't do what you describe.

As long as the arms are not out of sync they will compensate....some
If the regulator has been "fooled with" and the arms out of sync (which has happened), it can move out of square.

Another thought is make sure the glass is seating in the lower track and not slipping up on one side. The glass seat in the lower channel very tightly.

Not saying this is happening to you, but maybe....

I had issues with the window glass in my A400 doors. They both were really hard to raise or lower. I removed the felt tracks and found that the adhesive that glued two layers together had soaked through the felt so that the track was sticking to the glass. Affected both tracks in both doors. Might be possible that you have a spot in your tracks on the passenger door where that's happening.

I just had the same problem with my Vicky drivers door. Glass went into a bind about half way up, being pushed forward. The aft arm was pushing the rear of the glass more than the front arm. I just heated the front arm and moved the riser pivot about 1/2 up.
Works good now........

This may be my car’s problem too. Can you be a little more specific? “about 1/2 up” what?

Thanks.

OK, with the arms nearly horizonal, I heated the forward arm about 2 inches from the lift pin and bent it in such a manner that the lift pin was now about 1/2 higher than the aft pin. Note that when you now operate the mechanism the arms will be at the same height when up all the way. This kept the window from binding as it was being rolled up.
One other thing I found after the window frame was in place,...was that the forward felt channel was being compressed buy that forward filler block and the window frame, making the window hard to roll up. I then noticed the filler block was bent pushing itself too much on the felt channel. A little adjustment there fixed that.
Hope this helps,
Don.
