Heard on Jeopardy tonight
Ford used the scrap hardwood cut-offs from the body wood to start what company?
I'll take "What is Kingsford charcoal" for $800. |

Re: Heard on Jeopardy tonight
Actually incorrect. Ford Started the Ford Charcoal Company.
The name Kingsford was not used until after the company was sold to outside investors.

Time managed mass production was Fords technique, they never used 'shipping boxes for floor boards' in the A era.. every process from saw mill to car was under the stopwatch, to maintain consistency in the manufacturing process virgin wood was used. Vertical integration, the technique of controlling every facet of manufacturing was achieved with the wood element of production. Ford owned timber on ford owned land was sawed by ford owned mills, and fabricated in ford owned facilities. True vertical integration of automobile manufacturing was never achieved but Ford came very close.. The dream of Ford Rouge was just that, achieving vertical integration would maximize profits. They never got there. |

Vertical integration has probably been perfected by the Japanese, with government encouragement. Note their car manufacturers are not experiencing a chip shortage.

Naw the Judges say he can keep the $800
I think Mr. King was Henry's brother-in-law if I recall a story from Ford Life (a great magazine by the way. 1970-1974 Silverado press. Lorin Sorensen, Editor. If you don't have them, buy them off of E-Bay they were/are great! Fun to read. Get the whole collection) |
