I have been doing tours since 1980 and I have never seen anyone change a water pump beside the road. I have also never seen anyone carry a spare water pump .

we went on one tour 3800 miles and all four of us had spare parts. out in the middle of nowhere one broke a clutch arm and thank god one of us had one. you never know what part you are going to need.

We've had water pumps / fans fail on several tours over the years. Most have been repaired on the spot with spare parts from the cache of parts among tour participants.
