Wish I could find the post so I could give credit where credit is due. I used the one man method of bleeding the brakes on my 47 by looping a piece of clear tubing over the wheel and into a jar where I could see the fluid coming out. I just pumped the brake pedal until no air bubbles were seen and then went back and refilled the master cylinder after each wheel was bled. Pedal is just about all the way up. Thanks to all for your help on this project.

If the bleader hose is in the fluid the air won't go back into the wheel cly, just go and close the bleeder screw. Walt

Walt, if I remember correctly when this originally threaded a week or 2 ago, I asked that very question as too wether or not the jar needed fluid in it so that the hose itself when put into the jar would be submerged enough so that when the individual was done pumping the pedal and got out to tighten the bleeder that no air would get sucked back up into the line, and I want to say It was replied back that it didn't need to be, which didn't make sense to me from all my I have learned? So your statement confirmed my belief.

I would like to add that if it does work without fluid in the jar/container first, that I would do it myself with fluid in the jar before I started the one man process, just for the peace of mind of it. I surely don't know everything, and don't need to send that message.

Peewee, at the risk of redundency, I'll tell you that a smart dog can fill the jar for you, which in addition, may speed up the natural process of breaking in your new wheel cylinders.

I can see how you can see the jar on the left side, but how do you see on the right side?

You can make the hose as long as you want , put the jar where it is in site and then
HAVE @ IT as long as the end of the hose stays covered with fluid it won't let air in.
Just remember to have a catch can for the fluid that is in the hose after you tighten the bleader valve and remove the hose.

The best is Tygon tubing, available at good hardware stores. The most popular size is 3/16" ID, but some larger bleed screws would use 1/4".

thanks, the cheapo vinyl tubing at our local hardware store doesn't stay on the bleeders very well.

If you have problems keeping the hose on just use a O-ring on the outside of the tubing, and put alittle glue on it.

I don't think it's that necessary too see the hose, but if you want to ensure that the hose stays in fluid or somehow doesn't come up or out of the container or jar, use a small clamp probably easiest to go old school and us a clothes pin then you have even the curve for the tubing. Are we making this a tough job or what lol

I lay under the car which is on my drive-on ramps and pull the pedal from underneath, makes ir real easy to do. I also made up a jar with a piece of copper tubing with an el on the end and used JB weld to secure it to a hole in the cap-I use clean vacuum tubing and I also put about 1/2" on fluid in the jar so when you pump out and then let the brake pedal back up it pulls a little clean fluid with it

I can't show a picture but it is quit simple.

the hose pushes over the end of the brake bleeder ( I prefer clear plastic line so you can check that the line is full of fluid with no air in line after bleeding ) the hose goes into a clean container with a few inches of brake fluid in it. you have to make sure the end of the hose stays covered with fluid so when you release the pedal the air does not run back up the hose and into the wheel cly.

Make sure the master cly if full then loosen the bleeder & pump the brakes as you would normally bleed the brakes.not needing to re tighten the bleeder each and every cycle as long as the end of the hose stays covered with brake fluid.
make sure the Master cly does not run low and start to take in air that way.
When you are satisfied that there is no air in cly make sure you tighten bleeder before you remove hose.
when you are done do not try to save and reuse the fluid in the container it may be contaminated with dirt / rust or what ever.
