Actually, it shows the axles (78-3010) on Mercs to be the same as Fords during 1939 (99A-), 1940 (09A), and 1941 (19A-) model years, just as I had figured above.


What I was really interested in is whether a 1941 FORD wishbone has it's own "11A-" prefix (which would mean it fits ONLY 1941 Fords), or if the 1941 FORD 'bones carry a "99A-" prefix (which would mean that 1941 FORD wishbone was SAME as 1939-1941 Mercury wishbone...part number 99A-3010). rockfla ...Could you please look-up the "3405" WISHBONE prefixes for me, re: the above paragraph? I turned your "lazy" page upright, but the focus is "off" for me and I couldn't read the contents. DD

Here it is standing proud, but I still can't read the out-of-focus document. Can you go down the left hand column until you come to the numerical "3405" section, which will be the different iterations of wishbones. At that section, there should be either a "99A-3405", or an "11A-3404", or BOTH. If there's a "99A-3405" and NO "11A-3405 listed in the left column, then the "99A-3405" listing would probably have the "11A-3405" in the right "ALSO-used-on" column, meaning the '39 Merc wishbone was also used on a '41 Ford. DD

The 39 Mercury used the 99A part/ In 1940 they used an adapter and went back to the 78 prefix Ford part. In 1941 they all used the same 11A part but the Mercury had the adapter.

It gets a bit confusing when we jump back and forth between axles and radius rods. My post was on radius rods, base part number 3405. In 41 Merc and Ford used the same radius rods 11A-3405.

The axle base number is 3010 and looks like both Merc and Fords used the same axles, 78-3010 37-41 & 21A-3010 42-48.

I need to go back and look at the radius rods, it is difficult to read!

99A-3405 39-40
11A-3405 41
21A-3405 42-48

This is different than the listing rotorwrench is referencing. The posted page is difficult to read, but no 78.

I enhanced the image and it is readable, but still difficult.

I don't know how this is going to come out but this is a page from the catalog I have. It includes Ford but does not list model numbers. It only lists wheel base and two commercial model numbers. I suspect the change was somewhere in the 1940 production year but I have no idea when. It looks like I'll have to edit it. Notice on the entry for the 78 prefix part it lists 112" and 116" for 1940. The 99A part is only listed for 1939. The 21A part is listed for 114" and 118" for 1941. This catalog is dated May 1941. The part i haven't been able to find is the adapter but I'll keep looking for it.

Hey guys....Sorry I've been missing in action today. It's been a busy, "medical trauma" day over our way with Momma having her first experience with a kidney stone, but all is PERFECT again, and back to our regular programming schedule.


I've been pushing these big "MERCURY" torque tube and wishbone questions going-on nearly a week now. Three of you have been very patient, and very HELPFUL with me. All three of ya are very close to winning that infamous "chicken dinner". JSeery's post #30 above is likely the most-important tid-bit of info lending toward the WISHBONE identity resolve I've been looking for. I'm patiently waiting for ONE more measurement of an item from a friend before I THINK I can LAY IT ALL OUT! Please be patient.....I shall return! DD

It's almost a once a year ritual in the south Texas heat. My wife had both Kidneys done at the end of last year. She wanted to get it all before the deductible kicked in for another year. I've had my share over the years. Not a fun thing at all. I drink a lot more water now days.
