One of my Mom's old high school boyfriends had a 36 roadster way back when. I think it was a maroon color. It was a nice one but he had several vintage cars.

My Pop had a 1935 Tudor slant back but it wasn't near as nice. He drove the 35 from Iowa State Teachers College out to Minter Field near Bakersfield, CA with no problems. After finishing primary training he drove on to Pecos Air Field in Texas for twin engine training also with no problems. Another long drive to Avon Park Air Field in Florida for B-17 transition training with no problems. He sold the car before they flew overseas but it was one he wished he'd kept even if it was an old standard V8 car.

My Grandpop purchased a 1932 Chrysler Imperial 8 sedan brand new in 32. From the photos he took, it was a really nice car but it didn't stay around long. The damn thing caught fire the day after he bought it. He was in town getting insurance for it. It was either an electrical short or my pop and his brothers smoking corn silk cigarettes but no body ever fessed up to that. Grandpop liked the Chrysler products and Pop was a Ford man.

Your Grandpop was wealthy! You knew that though...
Even the sedan was "sexy".

I came fairly close to buying a restored roadster about seven years ago. It was $365k as I recall. I waited a bit too long and it was sold.
that very same car was sold again just five years later for a bit north of $700k.
Yeah, not one of my better moves in life...

I hope you're talking about the Chrysler here! Your new '36 is very nice, but not THAT nice.

I'm very excited about this one. It'll be a year or more before I can tackle a full restoration as my shop schedule is more than full until then.

In the meantime, I will do some light cosmetics and replace the springs. I'd managed to locate and purchase a pair of NOS springs to restore the proper height.

Hey Kube it might be okay to drive this one around for awhile before the rebuild. Put some miles on it!

Nice car, congratulations!

Nice car, congratulations!
I must have some kind of "rep" that you guys think I can't leave these old Fords as they are.
You would of course be correct

I truly am so thrilled with this car, I am planning on nothing more than a little cosmetic work and the NOS springs, oh, and new tires.
It's time for me to run the wheels on one of these and again, this is the one
I have a couple of restorations going in the meantime. I'd be crazy to start a third.

This car needs tires very badly. I am having a difficult time deciding between whitewall and black.
I am leaning to black as it seems everyone else has whites.

I'm kinda taking "votes". Mind you, the car's ride height will soon be properly restored with NOS springs. That will "lift" the body another 2" or so...

Anyone know how to photoshop blacks on here???

I go with a vote for black wall tires. I'll put them on my avatar '31 Victoria when the time comes.

Yeah, blackwalls will complement the Spyder hubcaps an vise-versa....

With respect, unless you are at least 92 years old and somehow monitored all of Ford's assembly plants as a ten-year old, you cannot say that 'NO ONE' had whitewalls, especially in light of the period photos showing that indeed some buyers of new '36 Fords did buy them with double WSW. They were a RPO (regular production option).

Mike, my vote is to do what pleases you!!! After some careful consideration, my guess is you'll go with blackwalls....and not to be frivolous with your money, if after a while you'd like to go back to the look she has when you bought her....well, they'll still be making whitewalls!!

She is truly one of the most beautiful Fords I have every seen . Congratulations!!!

I switched my 33 coupe from red wires/hubcaps/trim rings/whitewalls to black wires/hubcaps/blackwalls/no trim rings and I really like the look.

Beautiful car! '35 and '36 Roadsters have , in my opinion, the best body ford every made! I had a lot of flack from friends and family when I talked of putting blackwall tires on my '35. I am thrilled with how it looks.... I think it makes it looks more like a real car rather then looking ready for a parade. Though I can agree that on a darker body color the whitewalls can look nice and not as much of a distraction to the lines and more yet they can look good on a '36 with the convex fenders.

What are the springs you are replacing? I like mine sitting a tad lower but it has very worn out springs and leans a bit to the one side... Maybe I could give your old ones a new home?
I'd like to swap to the grease fitting type '36 springs anyways.

This is a 1968 spruce up job on my car and is showing its age pretty good. I've gradually been picking away at details as a full redo isn't really in my budget unfortunately right now.

When I had my '34 roadster I thought it should have white walls as a nice contrast for the black body and wires. After installing them I decided that the black walls looked way better! Black walls seemed to make the car look more serious and 'ready to go' somehow. Hard to explain and, of course, it is in the eye of the beholder.
My vote is for black walls but that car will look good with either!
Doug.
