Default Very Early 1930 vehicles...

For those of you who have a VERY early car, one assembled from December 1929 thru March 1930, how many have a pocket hole on each side of the frame for the NEW STYLE Emergency Brake Cross Shaft which by the way would be added in April 1930?

Thanks.

Pluck

Does that include Canadian cars?

Pluck,
I know how we can tell when the engine was produced...how can we tell when the car was assembled?

Thanks.

There is no real way EXCEPT...if you had a ORIGINAL stamped engine which was in the ORIGINAL chassis for which the engine was dropped in ORIGINALY with that same exact number which is on the engine AND the ORIGINAL Assembly Plant Sales Slip belonging to the above vehicle...One could probably get real close to the assembly date....Maybe not exact...but real close.

Steve, I believe my coupe is very early 30, but I don't know what to look for.
What's the difference between old and new? Pocket holes?

My friends Canadian coupe is # 156 from the Ontario plant. It has the long cowl band. It has the late emergency brake in it, so who knows.

Thanks, Pluck...but I think in my case I'm SOL. My engine number matches the frame number (A3246710) but my body number is R5534.

Even if I knew how to get the Assembly Plant Sales Slip (I don't), the body number doesn't cross to a known assembly plant (at least one that I know of). The only "R" is Richmond, CA, but that plant opened well after my car was assembled. I believe mine was assembled in Milwaukee since it has been a Wisconsin car up until my purchase of it, but it looks like the Milwaukee plant has an unknown alpha character associated with it.

Badpuppy...

Maybe this will help you???

View page 449 in the April 1930 Ford Service Bulletin for the "pockets" on the side of the frame.

According to your notes on frame evolution, my car's frame is post-1/3/30, no holes for RHD. The e-brake cross shaft passes through the side rails, so I assume it's the later part.

Interestingly, the engine # A1812126 dates to late June 1929. I spoke to the guy who did the body-off restore in 1989, and he assures me the frame # matches. That engine must have sat on the bottom of the stack for quite a while.
