Default Gas tank removal

I recently purchased a 29 Town Sedan which was in a garage for 19 years.
I want to remove the gas tank because of the black sticky sludge about an inch deep.
The cowl on this car is similar to a 1930. My understanding is that the tank has to be removed from the inside. All of the screws and brackets have been removed and the tank is loose. But it seems to be hanging up at the filler cap. Do I need to remove the cowl band or is there a secret I'm missing to get this tank out of the car to get it cleaned out?
Thanks, from Reno, Nevada

I remember when I pulled mine it was stuck to the inside top of the cowl with some black sticky goo, I assume to prevent rattles. After a good yank it came free. Hope this helps.

RichPA,
I'll give that a try. It almost seems that the threaded fitting for the gas cap is somehow attached to the top of the cowl. I wonder if I tapped the threaded filler opening with a block of wood and mallet that it might come loose.
Thanks for your reply.

Don't forget that the tank is sitting on that intermediate firewall piece (filler) and the
tank is wedged there by the filler neck for the tank..

I've never pulled one on that type of A,...but I'd sure be careful of the filler neck..

Try doing a search. I seem to remember a posting a few years ago about removing this style tank thru the inside of the car WITH many pictures.

RichPA & d.j. moordigian,

I finely got the gas tank out of my 29 Town Sedan. I placed some soft wood on top of the fuel filler hole and gave only one whack and it dropped down.
Thanks again for your suggestions.
