Default Painting new cast iron drums

I have a couple new cast iron drums coming and I'm planning to paint them with VHT black gloss paint. How is everyone painting theirs?

I had mine powder coated in 1999 and they still look fine. Recently replaced the first set and powder coated the new ones again last year.

Painted mine with engine paint. Supposedly good for warmer temperatures. Worked well.

A wiping down with T.S.P. helps the paint adheshion. It etches the surface.

We use paint formulated for drums. Auto parts stores should stock it. You want heat to dissipate quickly, so the coating should not be too thick.

I used Zero Rust black in 2003. Drums still look great. Not sure if the product is still available.

I love the Rustoleum Gloss Black Engine paint. Available at Auto Zone and even Wal Mart. Very durable, sprays on nice and and easy to keep clean. Chap

Before you paint, were they turned and centered? If not you might want to do that first.
