Default starter button

The starter button on the 49, you have to push very hard on it to work. I have a 49 51 shop manual and there is nothing in there on replacement ? Thanks for any help. Jack.

Before you work on the button, disconnect the battery.

To remove the button, compress the clip on the backside. Push the button forward ( toward the seat) and you'll see the connection wire. The bullet connector can be released by moving the clip.

Replacement buttons can be iffy. I found a nos unit that fit perfectly. The repops wouldn't clip into place properly for me.

Make sure it's grounded real clean to the dashboard metal. Some of the hard to push problem could be to make that ground.
