Horn button orientation
In my Ford the horn button is oriented 90 degrees off vertical. Is it possible to pull the horn rod out without dropping the steering column? Can the spider for the light switch be turned 90 degrees so that it's orientation is not changed?
Thanks,

Re: Horn button orientation
The switch has a guide, so it goes in only one way. Remove the switch, C clip, two prong guide and spring. Hold the switch plate and pull the horn rod out and turn 90 degrees. Reinstall spring, two prong guide and C clip. You do not need to drop the column to make this change.

Re: Horn button orientation
OK. I got the horn rod out. Now to get the horn button correctly oriented with the switch.
It looks like I bend the tabs on the under side of the light switch handle to get the button loose. What else do I have to do? I really hate to dig too far into this to find out I did something wrong. I just added a picture of the bottom side of the light switch handle showing the tabs. Thanks,

Re: Horn button orientation
Edit: after viewing your first picture more carefully, it appears you may actually be on the right track. Just the center button needs to be removed by carefully lifting those four tabs, shown in second picture, and rotate the button 90°. Put the button back in place in its correct position, and bend the tabs back down. Then put the horn rod assembly back into the column, and put everything back together at the bottom of the steering box.
I don't think you are following Gary's instructions correctly. You didn't need to remove the light switch/horn button rod to correct the the problem. Everything that Gary explained was supposed to be changed at the bottom or steering box, after removing the sheet metal light switch ball.

Re: Horn button orientation
To change the orientation of the V8 on the horn button to the tabs on the light switch handle, you do have to straighten the four tabs on the chrome ring for the button and remove the ring from the rod and rotate it and reinstall the tabs to the rod.

Re: Horn button orientation
Can't you just adjust the drag link to orient the steering wheel the way it should be?

Re: Horn button orientation
I'm not real familiar with 37's. I have to ask... Is the single spoke of the wheel supposed to go upward?

Re: Horn button orientation
Kube, no it is not. After I get this all back together I am going to investigate the procedure for getting that corrected.
After getting the horn button oriented properly I can see why the previous owner decided to not tackle correcting the orientation. Those tabs were seriously hard to bend straight so I could turn the button, and maybe a little tougher to get bent back over to hold everything in place. But it is all back together now. Now back to the light switch. Thanks for the help.

Re: Horn button orientation
A note on those little tabs,....they don't take to being bent too many times before they break off. Don't ask me how I know this .

Re: Horn button orientation
I hope I never have to bend them again. It definitely was not enough fun the first time.
