Default Jack stands

Here are a couple photos of Model A era jack stands that were purchased by my grandfather. They've been in use by my family for 4 generations. I decided to clean them up a bit and retire them.

Brass tag reads 'Walker Rigid Rack Auto Support 791'

Can you imagine a jack stand company today taking the time and money to actually install a brass tag. Not.

Neat, now all you have to do is put a Model A running board on top and make a coffee table.

there is a difference most times between the old usa ones and the new production imported ones----the old ones are forged, the new import are cast iron---the forged can bend, the cast don't bend---they break

They look pretty much like the ones I have acquired within the last 5 or so years.

My dad told me to to always carry a foot square of 3/4 plywood in the car to place under the jack. He said once he had a flat in his 1974 VW Ghia and it had the ol bumper pole jack. Said he loosened the lugs, jacked up the car and by the time he went to put the spare on it wouldnt go, the jack had sunk into the hot asphalt a few inches so he had to quickly jack it up as it was sinking and put the spare on. He said he never did get the base out of the asphalt it sank so deep...
