Cad/LaSalle Trans to flathead
Anyone have the adapter and/or info for my early-50s modified 37 trans with Olds tailshaft to flathead? I want to insert it into '40 chassis, without butchering chassis, but obviously converting to open drive. I also have 37 stock floorshift which I'd like to consider same swap, but with torque tube conversion. I have access to machine shop with shaft-shortening/resplining capabilities. Any old timers out there?

Re: Cad/LaSalle Trans to flathead
There are a few guys over on the HAMB that speak "Cad/LaSalle" stuff. Click the link below for quite a few HAMB threads related to C/L topics. DD

The Cad transmission/adapter combo will be longer than the Ford. You may need to "butcher" the frame. Do a bunch of measuring before you get too far into it. If doing the open shaft version you obviously don't need to worry about the length of the torquetube, but I'd bet you will need to remove the transmission mount crossmember, and possibly cut some of the top from the center crossmember cradle. And you will need to add some bracketry for the new rear axle mounting locators. If you go with the closed drive version you will need to shorten the torquetube an approximate inch or two. Will require moving the transmission mounting crossmember back a bit. Might have enough clearance so you don't need to hack up the center crossmember cradle though. |
