Re: V-8 Fords on Film
A lot of old cars in 711 Ocean Drive (1950) and the movie is not bad either. Might be more Fords in this than what I came up with--I was watching on the fly and had to write on a store reciept. There might be a couple that I missed.

Re: V-8 Fords on Film
Not having read the entire thread,, How about Lucille Ball's "The long long trailer" and their '53 Merc convertible.
A bit partial to that one, but mines a year older. |

Re: V-8 Fords on Film
"A Christmas Story" (You'll shoot your eye out.) has a few Fords, the one I remember best was a maroon 1940 DeLuxe passing by in front of Ralphie's school....

Re: V-8 Fords on Film
"Tobacco Road" (1941?)
A family of illiterate morons in Georgia buy a brand new '41 Ford coupe convertible and destroy it in two weeks or less. In the final scene of the movie the car ends up entirely spent and upside down in a ditch..... A few other '41 Fords are shown in the Ford showroom during the purchase scene. This film is not a comedy, although the opening scene with Jeeter Lester in his Model T would lead the first time viewer to believe it is. It is actually a very sad film. As a footnote, I read an article years ago about the '41 Convertible. It seems the studio sold the car to someone after the film was made, who had it completely repaired and used it as his primary transportation. I was pleased to have read that. Mike

Re: V-8 Fords on Film
"Hold Back The Dawn" (1940?) Olivia de Havilland and Charles Boyer were supposed to be the stars of this film, but the real star is a beautiful 1939 DeLuxe Woodie. The car appears in the movie almost from beginning to end. In one scene the grill gets smashed (I wept), but a new one is installed before the story ends. In another scene the Woodie boils over. So Boyer, in all his mechanical genius, fills the radiator with ocean water (I passed out during that scene. My wife revived me with smelling salts.). The Woodie should have received an Oscar for playing the part of a "faithful '39 Ford Woodie" so well while under adverse circumstance.
In the movie the Woodie belongs to de Havilland; actually, the Woodie is a school vehicle (I think) and de Havilland plays a gullible, love-starved California school teacher. Boyer commandeers a rather beat looking '35 Cabriolet. He is a "mooch" trying to get into the United States from Mexico. However, in the end he turns into a good guy. Happy ending for de Havilland, Boyer and, more importantly, the Woodie. There may be one or two more V-8's also, such as police cars. This is probably my all-time favorite V-8 Ford film. The 1939 Ford DeLuxe Woodie is almost a film character - certainly not just background scenery...... Mike

Re: V-8 Fords on Film
"All That Heaven Allows" (early 1950's?) starring Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman. Rock is a gardener and drives a rather nice looking 1947 or 1948 Woodie. I believe there are other Fords and perhaps a Mercury or two in the film also.
Mike
