That's it for the service charts, unless someone wants to see a specific parts group they might be interested in. The two last parts diagrams are from the May 1940 Ford chassis and parts book. One is the early 1940 sway bar system and the other is the very rare early production 1940 Ford and Mercury battery hold down bracket. The early 1940 Ford, Mercury and commercial battery tray had a light metal strap the went over the top edge of the battery against the firewall and went diagonally down the battery to two ears on the front of the battery tray support. The back leg of the batt tray was the same as late production and the tray stayed the same also. The are a lot of early 40's out there that still have the unique front tray support with the holes for the diagonal hold down strap, but the strap itself is very very scarce. The parts photo shows one front support for Fords on the left and one longer front batt support which is for 40 Mercury. This bit of trivia is only of interest to one or two of you die hard 40 collectors. The bottom of the diagonal strap folds on itself to form a one inch tube with treads and this goes through the ears on the early front batt support. Very very rare.

Very rare 1940 Ford early production battery hold down, unless you have two, then it's half as rare. This hold down would have been found on cars that would have had the early ashtrays and sway bar and on the Deluxe cars the the four grille trim pieces on the vent panels would have been squared off on a angle, instead of pointed. The front hood trim was also squared and not pointed. A lot of 1940 Fords in the Pacific northwest seem to be over represented with early features.

Interesting that the 3 Window Coupe is priced less than the 5 Window Coupe - I would have guessed that the 5 Window was more complex with the extra side glass??
