Default Gas Tank

Gas tank started leaking on my 49 ford. Ordered new tank and sending unit. New tank came and found that it did not have a vent hole. Before I pull the old tank I want to make sure the new one is the correct tank. I thought the original tanks had vent holes in them. Can anyone enlighten me on this subject?

Isn't the gas cap suppose to be the vent on your year/model car?

My gas cap is not the original. Not sure if it is vented. Thanks for the advice, I'll check it out.
