Has anyone driven an AA with the Mitchell?

I have one in each of our three Model A's, matched up with their sycromesh transmissions. In my opinion, it is the best way to go. Service or questions is top notch.

I don't know, but if I had an AA I'd sure want to install an overdrive in place of the intermediate shaft.
I have a 1929 Chevy 1 1/2 truck, and it sounds nice at 25 MPH in high gear. Not saying that is top speed by any means, but it sounds good at the speed.

Good reason to have a Mitchell. This is with a 3.78:1 ratio @ 1.26% over drive. As usual, can't control the picture rotation.

Don't you fellows risk lugging the engine with too high gear ratios. 26% with a 3.54 rear ratio would be to high in my opinion. Hopefully you are using inserts...I run a Mitchell 26% and rear end 3.78 and for me that is just perfect.

Any of you guys with a Mitchel OD have any notchie feel when shifting in and out of OD. Mine is not buttery smooth. Just wondering if they are all like that or just mine. I love it anyway.

My OD has a notchy feel to it also, so I am guessing that they are all like that.

I was wondering that too. I sent them an email and they said that they could do it with no trouble. However they did not know how well the worm drive rear end would tolerate it.
Anyone use one with a worm drive rear end??
Not necessarily looking to do over 50 miles an hour but getting into the low to mid 40's would make it something worth thinking about.

I'll let you know later this summer. I ordered a 36% unit from Mitchell earlier this year and it's supposed to be ready around the end of this month. The tech guy said they had made a few others for the shorter wheelbase truck (mine's a 28) and had very good reports from the owners.

Waiting paitently as well... In comparison how does the warford overdrive work with the AA's?

My area i have to get on a 4 lane highway for a few miles to just get anywhere and to especially cross the river. Sure theres a 2 lane bridge crossing but its way way out of the way and people go 60+ on the 2 lane, would rather ooze along on a 4 lane so they can safely and easily pass me...

I have had 2 Mitchel's in 2 different cars, love the product. I also have a Mitchel synchromesh transmission. With the Mitchel its 6 speeds forward and 2 in reverse. The Mitchel comes in handle driving in hill country here in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The sweet spot for my coupe is 55 to 60 MPH in 3 over. Great product with great support.

I'd like to hear how they work in your AA's too. If you can do 50 and carry on a conversation at the same time that would be great!!

After I get it installed, I'll post back. Due to receive it end of the month. Unfortunately, May and June are heavy parade months (this is a firetruck). I may not get it in the truck until June. I wanted to start a discussion about removing the old torque tube with the least amount of trouble. Should I start another thread???

OK. I understand that there is a tool than can be purchased or rented to assist in removing the rear drive shaft on an AA without removing the worm drive unit. Any scoop on this??

Maybe I'm missing something but there is none that I am aware of. The rear differential is coupled to the drive shaft by a collar that will require one of two pins to be driven out separating them. You will need to drop the rear axle away from the truck, disconnect the drive shaft from the transmission and slide the torque tube forward to do it.
