Default Most Recommended On-Line Auctioneers

If one wanted to find a reputable auction service (other than eBay) that would handle a small collection (parts, literature, collectibles, and maybe one vehicle) in an on-line format, who would you recommend? I am interested in feedback from those who have experience. What are the costs? Is it best to associate it with a big auction house (for example at Auburn, IN)? Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance.

One I have seen is Garth's in Columbus Ohio. They had what they call a Gentlemans Auction I think annually.Sure looks like they reach a pretty good size field. They had a huge onsite and online car and parts auction a week ago Friday Dec. 13th. A couple Model A engines,a B engine that was souped up,and Fords like a '39 convertible. If you go to auctiozip.com and find them on the 13th you may still see what huge inventory it was,for Columbus or are area at least.

I bought a good deal of parts from Garths online auction on the 13th. For the seller I do Not recommend them. Most items went for 50-75% Below value.
The 30 Phaeton brought $2400 car should have brought $4500+
The Mullins trailer was thought to be New reproduction. Went for less then a grand. Turned out to be a fully restored show quality original!!! I own it now. Thomas head New I paid $230.00
The block with
the Winfield Head was a all out B race engine. $375.0
It cost the seller 20% to sell. Also they had floor bidders, they got most of the good stuff.
Fordbarn and Marco classifieds I believe would be best or a National meet.

You could check with Nick Arrington in Virginia. He does online auctions. He's a Model A and early V8 man. (703)966-8422 tell him Fred Wicker gave you the # He's very good!

Curiosity, for an online auction, who is responsible for packing and shipping, and who pays the cost? Anyone with experience?

I didn't know what the seller was chaged percentage wise.Wasn't the 20% also buyers premium? In my case with Ohio sales tax and Franklin County tax added on it was a 27% buyers fee.Still a bad day for the seller, the hopped up B engine was presale estimated at somewhere around $4000-$8000.I think Garths blew it on advertising for the sale or little coverage at all.I found out about it after it had already started and I never even got a notification from them.

Wick, what is the pad on the side of the block between the oil fill and the dip stick?

If they would handle your auction I would use VanDerBrink from Hardwick MN. Very knowledgeable on old cars and parts etc. and usually gets top dollar and large crowds. Not sure if they handle online but don't know why they wouldn't.

See this posting;

You will note there is no mount for the generator and the water inlet is facing the wrong way.

That is a late B Truck block. Engine mount pad. Balanced crank. Notice the oil line hook up on lower rear corner.

Learn something new on here everyday. When I first saw this engine a couple weeks ago I was focused inon what I thought was a patch and did not notice the generator mount boss missing. I figured at the time someone will bid/buy just to get the head.

Wick,
congrats on the mullens!

crapped out one here sold about 3 years ago for close to 5k, needing full restoration. Only good thing was, it had the original wheels and hubcaps, which you rarely see.

While not sure about the late part, I was told today that the pad was for a vacuum clutch or brake assembly that never happened. Some have the holes drilled some don't and was dropped later in production.
