Default New to the "Barn", Howdie Y'all

I was given a '30 Model A motor today. Like most things in life, those that are free usually cost something. This one was free. All I had to do was get it out of the basement it was stored in. By now you have probably figured out the cost. A Ford ranger as the anchor, a 20 foot strap, a 20 something son, a come-along, and "The mother of all two wheeled dollies" resulted in the motor loaded on my trailer for home. I found your site as I was looking for information on the little "banger". Just wanted to introduce myself and say "Howdie". Check out my profile, it will explain alot.

Say LSISK, did you get any info on this engine as to the possibility of getting it running ? This site is like going to college for 4 years and getting a degree on Model A -101. Any thing you want to know is here (as long as it is Model A related) The answers you'll get will come from all over the world.

Good Luck. NOW, JUST DON'T TURN IT INTO A RAT ROD..............LOL..!

Welcome! While this site is THE place for stock engines and stuff, we can and do supply information and direction for just about anything you can think of.

Thanks for the welcome. I don't have any pics yet, but I will try to get some today and post them. So far I've been able to trace the serial # to the motor being installed in may 1930. It's in the 3, 350,000 range preceeded by a capital A. It has a blank stock head (no casting #'s or letters). It's missing the intake/carb, exhaust manifold, and water pump. When I tipped it up on the dollie, the oil began to run out the rear main. (didn't know they only had slingers) The oil was barely dirty so I'm hoping that is a good sign. Most of the green engine paint is intact but that could have been repainted somewhat recently. The man who owned it had a '30 fordor. He passed away several years ago and his daughter is cleaning out the house getting ready for auction. Don't worry bobpo, I don't have any use for rat rods. Most I've seen are a danger to all who come near. My avatar pic is my "junkyard jalopy". I love taking other peoples discards and make them useful. My father taught me to give any vehicle what it deserves. If it deserves restoring, then restore it. They aint gonna make any more of them. The '35 cab I started with was rotting in a woods. If you tried to dip it, all you would have got back was the suspension hooks. The frame was used under a farm wagon until 1959 when they broke the front axel crossmember and parked it. (had to cut down a 50 year old tree to get it). It has 4 wheel disc brakes, 3" tube chassis behind the now cosmetic pinholed frame rails, '59 235 chev blue flame six with 3 side draft s&s super B carbs on my home made intake/exh. header, Dana 44 rear axel. The front axel was under the local Baptist church sign.('36 vintage) How much fun can you have for a total of $ 2,500 investment? I think all that rusted iron is much happier rolling down the road again instead of being melted down to become a toyota. Rest assured fellas I'm not one of those guys that buys a restored vintage automobile so he can take it apart to build something that could built from repo parts. They are only original once.

Thanks again for the welcome
Larry
