I would buy a metal shelter for under $1000 to store a car in. This would be those metal frames with a metal roof that comes down a couple feet on the sides 12' x 20'. 400 miles is definitely too far away for car storage. Most places have no restrictions of this type shelter because it isn't considered permanent. Put it beside your garage, and you'll have one side closed.

I have no intention on chasing points. It's an early car that has been well used with many incorrect year and repo parts. To make it correct would be costly and take much more time than I have.

The hole for the starter rod is located in a different place on the earlier cars. Here's yours:



Here's an early cowl (like yours) that's had the more common hole punched in it:



The doors in your photos are also early being that they don't have the reinforcing ribs stamped into the inside panel.

The firewall does have the starter rod hole closer to the center and if you look closely, you can see a small hump just above the innermost "D" nut, a characteristic of an early '28. Also, the hole for the left break as well as the short lip where the cowl lacing is attached. Did you also get an early gas tank?

I believe the tank is original. Not sure why I didn't take pictures of that. Might be because it's in the middle of the room rather than tucked between the trusses. I'll probably be in nor cal next week. I'll take a picture or two.

That's certainly an early tank due to the flat strap style choke rod bracket. Not the earliest version because it's got the strengthening ribs beside where the coil attaches, but an early tank nonetheless. You've got a great project there Mike!
