Roadster, I just purchased a FSI zipper. What timing light do you use?

I always set mine by "total" advance , not idle advance . I got my light at a swap meet . old but works well .

Hey old31,
Timing lights, per se, are basically all alike, that is, they light up the timing marks/pointer that YOU made, that are on the crank pulley.
I have an antique light , which is the most basic and easy to hook up , but doesn't have the BRIGHT light that more modern lights have.
Note:
The oldest light has chips out of it due to fan and getting too close because light is weak ! So, watch your hands if buying an old light.
Warning:
Using almost any timing light involves hooking up wires/clips/etc...watch that these do not lay onto the exhaust headers/manifold..as they burn.

We (very much like Zipper) use a fork lift core to make a nice "Mallory" single point unit for the Model A engine . After doing a hundred plus of these (almost out of cores) the only issue I have had is some engine want more advance. We ship our Mallorys with 30 degrees at 2000-2500 rpm.
There are a lot of different combos with the Model A engines for sure. Every Zipper i have tested has been right on!!!!

The reason I ask is that I have a CP7529 Digital light from Actron.

I don't want to have to buy another light and would like to see if someone knows how to make this one work with a FSI Zipper and 6 volt positive.

My FS ignition never worked right so I gave up and installed a rebuilt stock system. My model A now runs better than ever.

The webpage at Summit says 12 V.
You probably could use it using a separate source of 12V DC to power the light.

31 just get a 12v battery set it on the floor where you're working and hook the light to that for a power source the rest hook it # 1 plug and do what you need to do

x2 - I've done it that way many times (I use a 12v JumperPack).

petew, do you remember what size springs you installed to alter the advance curve? The FS zipper I believe comes with 16 or 20 thous.but not sure.

After many problems, I gave up on my FS, electronic ignition, and went back to the stock system. My Model A now runs better than ever. Plus I now have control of my spark on hills. Henry knew best.

I have run an FS auto advance distributor for several tens of thousands of miles. At first, I didn't like the way it caused pinging under heavy load, even at touring speeds. I retarded it little by little till the pinging could not be induced. I've driven the wheels off the car since with no problems.
Seems others have taken a similar approach to me while others have limited the advance by other routes. It seems "All roads lead to Rome!"

I contacted the manufacturer ( FSI ) and they sent me a set of “heavy” springs .
They did the trick for me.
Give them a call, apparently it is a common request.
