Default 28 or 29?

Hi All,
New member here. Learned to drive on Dad's 31 pickup and now, 37 years later, I've finally acquired a pickup of my own.
Pretty straightforward question...
It's titled as a '28 but the engine is a February '29 serial number.
What are some of the more obvious ways to determine if I should call it a 28 or 29? I will probably stick with '29 since engine number is all I have without pulling body to look for serial numbers.(so I'm told)
I have the judging standards and many other books but thought I'd pick your brains for some opinions and jumpstart my learning.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Barn. There might be a date stamped in the lower left corner
of the gas tank. Looks like you have the red steering wheel which was used
to about Feb 1929.

Firstly, welcome to the barn. Secondly, Nice P/U - real nice. Thirdly, where did you get those knobby tyres on the rear wheels?

Wecome to the barn! Nice 28 pickup, because that's what the title states. Motors are changed, there for could be any year! You probably don't need to open up a can of worms to change a title. Very nice looking knobby tires!!!!

Does the engine number match the number on the title? If not there most likely was a change in engines some time ago. The only other thing to do is check the number on the frame and see if that matches the title or the engine. For now I would drive it and enjoy. Looks like a real nice truck!! Norm

Nice looking pickup.
On the tail gate hooks, if you install them from the bottom up, then they can't bounce out if you hit a large bump.

Some times they stamped that date on the gas tank upside down also. But do look there.
Take a picture of the interior also, where is the parking brake located?

Also look at the choke rod and mounting bracket. 1928 had the shorter rod and tear drop handle, and the mounting bracket was midway under the tank, while 29 had the bracket closer to the rear edge.

You have a '28.
Because the government says so.

Don't confuse the issue with facts.

Welcome to the Barn.

What ever country you are in, just agree with the little people who have nothing better to do than cause you grief (the government). It's the same here in France, if you make waves they will drown you, so just say yes, and do your own thing.

You have a very nice 1928 pick-up there.

Thanks for having me!
The tires came with it. Dry-rotted beyond anything I've ever driven on.
They're the original snow-tires, I'm told. Already replaced with fresh Firestones from Coker.

Thanks for noticing...
I remembered that from my dad's truck. Those pics were from right before I bought it. Changed it immediately.

I will check all the aforementioned locations for date stamps etc. The title number matches the engine number. According to all the experts if that's all you have then that's what you use. As I buy replacement parts and such, it would be nice to have one year to aim for.
Thanks for all the replies.

Where is the choke rod bracket located on the tank?
Do you have single bulb fluted headlamps, or the 1929 2 bulb headlamps?

I think it is a 1929 due to the fact that the side view mirror is in the middle of the door post. 1928 had the side view mirror up at the top of the post, just my opinion.
Mike
nice truck good luck with it !!!
